MASSIVE FURNITURE
My solid wood, metal and wood furniture are unique pieces, machined, planed, assembled and finished by hand.
Their sizes, shapes and appearance to the touch are irregular.
I mainly work with ash, which is a light-coloured wood, almost white with brown veins and pink highlights.
I design my furniture without a plan. I just make a sketch. It's not unusual for some pieces to be completely improvised.
My creations retain their natural colour, except in the case of made-to-measure finishes. They are made by hand in a natural design with zen lines.
The aim of this design is to give the impression of a piece of furniture, rough sawn, yet irregular and smooth to the touch.
The boards are planed by hand, then sanded and finished.
My work is inspired by the robustness of country furniture, combined with a Japanese Zen style and the naive, tortured art of African ethnic furniture.
My aim is to achieve a calm and simplicity in my gestures and designs that I hope will lead me to make increasingly pure furniture, stripped of all ostentatious symbols.
